A Contemporary Interpretation of the Traditional Stonemill.
Condio spicegrinders reimagines the ancient craft of stone grinding into a pair of hand-operated spice mills for the dining table. Inspired by traditional stone mills, these grinders reinterpret an ancient technique into a contemporary table object. Two stones, a fixed bottom and rotating runner, grind the spice using pressure and friction. Hand-carved patterns guide the movement of the spices - controlling flow, texture and aroma.
In this piece, this principle is embodied in marble and alder. The soft-cornered yet angular shape offers a firm, natural grip that feels both gentle and grounded in the hand.
The result is a tactile object that bridges craft and mechanism, reconnecting everyday dining with the slow, grounded rhythm of traditional milling.
